A social media layer over real life

Because people are a social specie, the online social media is the internet catch-up on real life. But wouldn’t be fun if the online info would be a sort of an augmented reality layer over real life? And wouldn’t it be cool if smartphone and multitouch behavior could be integrated in real life? See how that works out in the music video of French rap duo  Toxic Avenger.

Hostile Video takeovers

Nice examples of clips that mess around with YouTube and Vimeo interface or even completely take over the website.

1. Lets start with the latest one, the new musicvideo of Perquisite, where the play around with the Google ads bar in the video.

2. A hilarious viral of Tipp-Ex. For the full effect, you should visit YouTube yourself.

3. Tostitos uses a complete viedeo takeover on Vimeo. Check this video here.

4. And old one (2008) from Nintendo, promoting Wario Land: Shake it!

The wilderness downtown

The wilderness downtown is an online collaboration project of the band Arcade Fire and Google, launched last monday. It’s a Google Chrome experiment and is a new step in music ‘video’. It’s a music videos for the web, rather than for television. The project uses the web browser itself as an artistic medium for interaction and multi-paned viewing rather than just using the browser as a frame for a plain, television-style video.
At the start you give the location you’ve spend your childhood and the video uses Googlemaps streetview with that location to let the story evolve in this area. Half way you’re asked to send a message to younger self. The project is build with HTML 5 technology.

The streets you see in my personal clip are in San José California, where I lived when I was 16/17 years old.

Collapsus, online interactive film

Here’s a nice example of a new experience that combines interactivity with animation, fiction and documentary! This story-telling approach blends real facts with mini games and movie fragments, inviting you to assume the role of director – collecting information, finding solutions and making crucial decisions. It’s a very nice and innovative form of using film in a web-kind of way; interactive.
The story is about the world after peak oil. It looks into the near future and shows you how the impending energy crisis will affect a group of four young; the story’s four main characters. What will their world look like after the turbulent transition from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources?

Watch the trailers her or visit the Collapsus website for the full experience. Credits go to dutch production company Submarinechannel and dutch broadcaster VPRO.

Google TV

Wednesday I was at the Marcom event in Amsterdam and was introduced to Google TV. After the presentation I asked myself; will Google TV do to the TV industry, what Apple did to the music industry with introduction of iTunes? I think they just might. What do you think?

New typography for Inspirationspam

New on my blog is the typography I’m using. It’s generated by a new plug-in: Typekit, witch can be used either on a Worpress blog or on any other type of website.
Typekit is an easie way to use real fonts on the web. It’s a subscription-based service for linking to Open Type fonts from some of the major type foundries. The fonts are served from a global network on redundant servers.

Every major browser now supports the ability to link to a font. That means you can write a bit of CSS, include a URL to a font file, and have your page display with the typography you expect. For designers and developers, this is a significant step forward. No longer will you need to trap your content in images or Flash. But Fonts have copyrights.
And that’s where Typekit comes in. They’ve developed a web-only font linking license with the major type foundry’s. And they’ve build the technology platform to host free and commercial fonts.

Inspirationspam is now using the VERA SANS by Bitstream as bodytype…

… and LFT ETICA DISPLAY WEB by TypeTogether for the headings.

Wonderful Wonderwall interface

And since we’re on the subject of innovative and cool user interfaces (The New York Times Innovation Portfolio), before we were interrupted by the worst policyical campaign in the Netherlands… Check out the this website of wonderwall. Very nice!

Check out the Wonderwall website. You’re gonna need a pretty serious bandwidth though.

CK augmented reality

Here’s an augmented reality web campaign of  Calvin Klein (I think it was in collaboration with GQ magazine). And I’ve tried it and it worked. It’s a little ‘blocky’ and it’s clearly a technology in progress. Watch the demo video and you get the idea. Or try it out you’re self, the website will explain you how. You also gonna need a webcam.
