Nike premium print pack-the recycled magazines shoe

And here’s an other Nike sportswear post on inspirationspam, and I’m not even sponsored by them! :-)  Well, it’s to cool to not write about it. I gues they’ve got their marketing right.
This time it’s about the recycled magazines shoes. I like the concept, althoug I doubt it’s the next big step to a 100% sustainable shoe.

“What we need is design that makes us dream”

This is a quote of Lonneke Gordijn at the TEDxAmsterdam event today (30th of november). She’s the (co)founder, together with Ralph Nauta, of Design Drift, a design company that has practicing vision of creating design that reacts to and questions human behavior.
They’re curious about the future, not only the new technologies that are changing design, but also the evolutionary developments in nature and human culture.

Clean cleaner design

Cleaning and detergent products; how exiting is that? Not very, you’d expect from the design point of view. But in the household and personal care industry a lot has been happening over the years and design rules are changing.
Once one of the dirtiest industries, is now becoming clean. The big guy’s are catching up on the small pioneers and now health and the environment has become an important issue in big brands future strategies. Continue reading ‘Clean cleaner design’

Simple & beautiful but with wrong logo

My God, this is such an iconic, beautifully simple and strong packaging concept for Panasonic Note. I’d buy it, just for the look of it.
Only… the thing is… I’m looking at an Apple product where they accidentally put on Panasonic logo.

Embracing arms chair

Very cute, very welcoming, very inviting, very charming these embracing arms chair designed by Ukraine designer Oleksander Shestakovych. Made me smile. Sometimes you wonder why no one has ever thought of this before. It seems so obvious.

111 Coke bottles make 1 chair

Ok, a fiew posts back I showed you the problem with bottled water and what the bottles do with the environment. Now Coca Cola comes with a solution to turn bottles into a chair. The 111 Navy Chair is based on the original aluminum 1006 Navy Chair, designed by Emeco for the U.S. Navy in 1944. The current version is a collaboration between Emeco and Coca Cola, and is made from 111 recycled plastic Coke bottles. It is expected to keep three million plastic Coke bottles out of landfills each year.
I like the design of the chair and I like the concept!
But there’s a catch. The chair is available at dwr.com and it’s going for $ 230,- (and € 232,- at directdesign.nl). Witch, I think, is a lot of money and makes the project sound more like a temporary fashinoable item used as a greenwashing PR stunt from Coca Cola, than realy finding a solution for the bottle waste problem.

Teach your kids to become font-designers

This toy prototype helps your kids not only their ABCs but also the basics of font design. Instead of 26 distinct letters, the oversize, 4-inch recycled-cardboard cubes (known as “Letterboxes”) divvy up the alphabet into combining geometric parts. The cubes can be stacked in all sorts of combinations to produce a variety of shapes and letterforms. The typeface is available as a free download.

Turn negative into positive

Finaly!!! It pays off to be clumsy! An everyday negative situation is turned into a positive experience with this tablecloth. Wine and coffee stains are hard to wash out and might leave vague colour traces after washing. In this case, the figures in the cloth will form a pale, shadowy pattern that will grow as the tablecloth is being used and spilled on over time. The concept allows a great collection of patterns. Different patterns will tell different stories. This creates stories and can contribute in giving the tablecloth sentimental value.
The tablecloth Underfull is a prototype and is not yet in commersial production. Get in contact with the designer Kristine Bjaadal if your interested.
I love the concept of storytelling translated in a product for every day use.
