Disposable technology

Fascinating ‘cardboard’ thought from Britisch designer Kyle Bean. A series of cardboard sculptures as a response to our consumer relationship with technology and rapid evolution of this technology.

Light-writing

French designer/artist Aïssa Logerot has created a Halo light spray. Instead of spraying paint it sprays light from a LED. Love the concept!

In his own words:
Halo is a handy light specially dedicated to light-writing. Graffiti artists can conserve their own gesture they have with a spray can. It is possible to change the color and the brightness of the led to change the graffiti’s styles. If the light doesn’t have enough battery, the user must shake it to have energy again.

Buy followers

Twitter1

Not enough followers on twitter? Don’t worry; you can buy them! (1000 followers! Order now! only $87) That sounds a bit sad of course, like you don’t have any friends. But it’s meant as a social media marketing tool to reach audiences via twitter.

Verizon; ugly logo, ugly building

Spotted in NY

As a (damn) tourist I crossed the Manhattan bridge the other day, and sadly enough, one of the first things you notice is the ugliest and most depressing building of Manhattan with the ugliest logo of corporate America: Verizon. How does this building and logo relate to the mission statement?:

“As a leader in communications, Verizon’s mission is to enable people and businesses to communicate with each other. We are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees and investors.

Where is the ‘leader’ in the logo and where is the ‘open communication’ in this building?
Although I’ve read on the Curbed weblog, the building will undergo a massive glassy renovation. I think the logo could use a serious renovation too.

It’s so ugly, I even forgot to take a picture of it, so this one is from Flickr. ;-)

Virgin flagship store on Times Square gone

Virginstore-NY

The world has changed, we know that. We don’t buy CD’s ennymore, instead we download our music to our computer and iPOD. This resulted in the famous Virgin flagship store on Times square to closdown. The rebel of the record industry of the 80′s has to make space for tenants more fitting for this century. (Or is the concept of a flagship store not profitable enough in economic harsh times?)
Parts have been rented out to Planet Hollywood and Forever 21. Would’nt the remaining space be fitting for an Apple store?

In the US, McDonalds came with an answer to the success of Starbuck: They’ve extended the brand with McCafé. And what better way to introduce the new product by letting people taste it for free? (only on Monday though)

Inspirationspam in English from now on

OK. I’ve been writing this blog in Dutch up ’till now. But with English being the universal language on the Internet, generally speaking, I’ve decided to continue this blog in English. This way a broader audience can be reached and inspired.
I hope you’ll enjoy this blog in English as much as you did in Dutch.
